What is Card Settings? What is Card Settings?
Card Settings is an enhancement to your SC Mobile app and online banking that gives you more control over how, when, and where your cards may be used. You can log in to your SC Mobile app or online banking to change your settings at any time, and they will be applied instantly.
What are the benefits of using Card Settings? What are the benefits of using Card Settings?
You will have more control over how, when, and where your credit card may be used. Through instant notifications, you’ll be alerted to any potential fraud or misuse of your card, and be able to act immediately, reducing loss and saving time. If you’ve temporarily misplaced your card, for instance, you can use Card Settings to instantly lock it temporarily, and then instantly unlock it when you find it again.
How do Card Settings work? How do Card Settings work?
Card Settings works by leveraging capabilities offered by both Visa and MasterCard; it uses the Visa Card Transaction Controls service as well as the MasterCard Spend Controls and Alerts services.
How long does it take for the setting to come into effect? How long does it take for the setting to come into effect?
The settings are applied instantly. If you change a setting on your SC Mobile app or online banking, you will be able to test the setting straight away the next time you use your card to make a transaction.
Will my settings be applied to all transactions made on my card? Will my settings be applied to all transactions made on my card?
No, Card Settings do not apply to the following types of transactions made on your card:
1. transactions whereby you, an authorized person or a merchant opt to switch the transaction to a card association other than Visa International or MasterCard International;
2. domestic ATM cash withdrawals;
3. secure transfers made via sc.com or SC Mobile from your card to other SCB accounts;
4. transactions made at certain merchants that process their transactions directly with SCB; and
5. any other type of transaction as we would inform you from time to time.
In addition, the temporary lock control will not apply to recurring bill or subscription payments, so as to avoid any unintended impact.

Card Settings will only be applied with making Visa and MasterCard transactions on your credit card.

If I have a supplementary card, will the same settings be applied as on the principal card? If I have a supplementary card, will the same settings be applied as on the principal card?
Principal and supplementary cards will both be displayed in the cards list and be available to select only if the card numbers are different. In that case, the embossed card holder name will be displayed against the card in the list, and you will be able to set different settings for your principal and supplementary cards.

Where the principal and supplementary cards have the same card number, only the principal card will be available to select in the cards list, and any settings on the principal card will also be applied to the associated supplementary cards.
If I have given a supplementary card to a relative or associate, will they be able to access Card Settings to view or modify the settings for that card? No, only the principal card holder may set controls on any supplementary cards.
How will I know if my settings have been activated? How will I know if my settings have been activated?
When you make any changes to your card’s settings, you will receive an instant notification advising you that the setting is now in effect. You will also see an on-screen confirmation.
Can anyone else change my settings? Can anyone else change my settings?
Only you as the principal card holder can change the settings for your cards. To change any settings, you need to be logged in to SC Mobile and undergo 2-Factor Authentication in the form of a One Time Password.

When you call our banking hotline, our call center staff may also see and change your settings if they have your permission and have sufficiently verified your identity via the standard methods.
What information do you share with Visa and MasterCard? What information do you share with Visa and MasterCard?
The only information that Standard Chartered Bank shares with Visa or MasterCard in order to facilitate Card Settings is your card number and your settings preferences.

Visa and MasterCard will not send you notifications relating to Card Settings, but Standard Chartered Bank will send you notifications for transactions that trigger your settings.
Can I use Card Settings to modify my credit limit? Can I use Card Settings to modify my credit limit?
No, your card’s credit limit is assigned by the bank. You may use Card Settings to set limits on individual transactions up to the value of your assigned credit limit.

Currently, Card Settings is available for Visa and MasterCard credit cards only.

Card Settings is an opt-in service. You can access it to change or reset your settings at any time. If you don’t use Card Settings, your card still work and remain subject to any usage restrictions imposed by the card association or by Standard Chartered Bank.

No, we do not currently charge any fee for using this service.

Yes! In fact, if you have a supplementary card with a different card number compared to the primary card, then you can use Card Settings to set different transaction controls on that card, and be alerted to certain transactions made only on that card.

Simply navigate to Card Settings in your SC Mobile app or online banking and tap the ‘Temporarily lock this card’ toggle. When you lock your card temporarily, you will be prompted to provide confirmation.

When your card has been locked temporarily, transactions made using that card will be declined except for the following types of transactions:
- transactions whereby you, an authorized person or a merchant opt to switch the transaction to a card association other than Visa International or MasterCard International;

If you have temporarily locked your card in Card Settings, you may access Card Settings in your SC Mobile app or online banking at any time to unlock your card.

If you have requested that your card be permanently blocked, then it cannot be unblocked and you should wait until your replacement card is delivered to you.
My card has been lost or stolen, what should I do? My card has been lost or stolen, what should I do?
You could first navigate to Card Settings in your SC Mobile app or online banking to temporarily lock your card. This lock will be applied instantly and provide you with peace of mind while you search for your card. If you are sure your card has been lost or stolen, you should immediately navigate to Help & Services in your SC Mobile app or online banking and Report Lost/Stolen Card, or otherwise you may phone our banking hotline to request your card be blocked. A replacement card will then be issued to your registered address.

No, you will not lose your settings. When you install the SC Mobile app on a new device, your cards and card settings will appear on the new device as on the previous device.

Yes, your Card Settings will be available on all devices on which you have SC Mobile app. Your settings will be synchronised across devices, and so changes made on one device should reflected on the other.
When I get a replacement card, will that card have the same settings? When I get a replacement card, will that card have the same settings?
No, your Card Settings will currently not be automatically transferred to your replacement card.

When your card is replaced, the new card will have a different number. Your existing card settings will not be carried over to your replacement card and you will have to manually re-set them. We’ll remind you when your replacement card is issued.

You will have to navigate to Card Settings for the new card in your SC Mobile app or online banking and set your preferences for the new card.

Standard Chartered may issue an SMS notification when your card is used to make transactions. When you opt for a control on your card in Card Settings, you are also enrolling for additional notifications for certain transactions which breach that control. You may reduce your notifications by disabling active controls at any time.
What is a transaction limit? What is a transaction limit?
A transaction limit is a limit imposed on the transaction amount of a single one-off transaction. The amount will be based on the currency of the country where your card was issued. When you set a transaction limit in Card Settings and then make a transaction using your credit card, if the amount exceeds the limit that you specified, it will be declined and then you will receive a notification.

To set a transaction limit, navigate to Card Settings in your SC Mobile app and online banking and tap on Transaction Limit. Enter a limit amount. The limit amount is based on the currency of the country where the card was issued. You must enter a transaction amount that is above the minimum amount, that is displayed by default, and the credit limit for your card, as assigned by Standard Chartered Bank. When you tap the Save button to return, your transaction limit setting will be saved and come into immediate effect.

Your card’s credit limit refers to the maximum amount of credit that Standard Chartered Bank assigns to your card. A transaction limit is the limit or amount that you have set under Card Settings.

Yes, there is a minimum transaction limit of USD$25 (or equivalent). This is to prevent misuse of the service and to ensure you do not receive too many notifications.

1. paragraph a (Temporary lock/block) does not apply to recurring transactions;
2. paragraph b (Notification or declining of overseas card-present transactions) applies only to card-present transactions occurring overseas. When you enable this control setting under the Card Settings service, you remain able to use your card for online transactions anywhere whether the transaction amount is in local or foreign currency;
3. the amount or limit set by you under paragraph c (Transaction limit) is based on the currency of the country where your card is issued; note that overseas or non-local transactions are subject to the same exchange rate as that which applies to currency conversions on your card;

Merchant category code is a code designating the principal trade, profession, or line of business in which a merchant is engaged.
If I opt for overseas transactions to be declined, can I still make online purchases from overseas merchants, even when the payment is billed in my local currency? Yes, when you opt for overseas transactions to be declined, you will still be able to make online transactions anywhere. The overseas card use decline setting only applies to card-present transactions.

Sometimes the systems that support Card Settings may be unavailable, or there may be a network issue that prevents your settings from being saved. If you see this warning, please try again to save your settings.

If you have previously set a control that results in certain transactions being declined, and you are now unable to disable that control due to such system availability or network issue, then the previously set control will be in place until such time when you are able to successfully disable that control.

If you have not set a control that results in certain transactions being declined, or requested only notifications for such transactions, then your card will still continue to work.

We try to ensure maximum availability of the Card Settings service, and we are reliant on the availability of the Visa Card Transaction Controls service and the MasterCard Spend Controls and Alerts services. In the rare circumstance that any of these services are unavailable, a warning will be displayed in your SC Mobile app and online banking when you attempt to make changes to your card settings. Your SC Mobile app and online banking should always display the current status of your card settings. If at any time Card Settings is not working as expected, you may contact us on 600 5222 88. If you want to remove or cancel your settings, you can at any time by logging in to your SC Mobile app or online banking and navigating to Card Settings.

The Card Settings service is provided as part of the Bank’s electronic banking services, and accordingly:

2. You consent to the use and disclosure of your card information (including card number) and the specific control settings enabled by you under the Card Settings service to the relevant card association for the purpose of the relevant card association in assisting the Bank to provide the Card Settings service;
3. The specific control setting under the Card Settings service that is enabled does not override any limits set by the relevant card association or by the Bank and your card remains subject to any limits imposed by the relevant card association or the Bank; and
4. The Card Settings service is intended as a tool to help you stay in control of the use of your card and combat fraud. You further acknowledge that you are aware that when you enable a control setting under the Card Settings service pertaining to paragraph 3d (types of transactions/payment channels) or 3e (merchant categories) above, it is possible that inaccurate information about the merchant category code or type of transaction/payment channel could have been or could be provided/selected by the merchant or Acquirer in non-conformity with the relevant card association’s Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance requirements or rules, resulting in unintended or ineffective control settings.
You may access the Card Settings service to change or reset the control settings at any time. To change any control settings, you will need to log in to the mobile app or online banking and undergo additional security authentication.
If you inform us that the security of your electronic equipment or security code has been compromised or that the electronic equipment which you use to access any electronic banking services is lost or stolen, we may require you to change the security code, or cease the use of the Card Settings service.
You are responsible for:
1. The security code used to access the Card Settings service; and
2. The security of your mobile device.
In addition to the disclaimers and your liability stated in our Customer Terms (as found in the link above):
1. We do not represent or warrant that the Card Settings service will be accessible at all times, or function with any electronic equipment, software, infrastructure or other electronic banking services that we may offer from time to time;
2. We shall not be responsible for any loss or damage you or an authorised person incur directly or indirectly in connection with your use of or access to the Card Settings service as a result of any inaccurate merchant category code or type of transaction/payment channel as provided/selected by the merchant or Acquirer in non-conformity with the relevant card association‘s PCI compliance requirements or rules;
3. Unless a law prohibits us from excluding or limiting our liability, we are not liable for any loss you or an authorised person incur in connection with the use or attempted use of the Card Settings service, or your instructions, or any unauthorised transactions through or in connection with the Card Settings service;
4. You shall indemnify us from all loss and damage which we may incur in connection with any improper use of the Card Settings service;
5. You are personally responsible for the security of your mobile or communications device; and
6. You acknowledge that any control settings you have enabled on your card under the Card Settings service will not automatically be carried over when you are issued a replacement or new card (except where you are issued a replacement or new card with the same card number); when you are issued a replacement or new card with a different card number, you will be required to re-do or enable the control settings in order to avail the Card Settings service for that replacement or new card.
