UAE Internal Shari’ah Supervision Committee

Standard Chartered's Islamic Banking operations in the UAE are supervised by an independent Internal Shari’ah Supervisory Committee. The Committee independently supervises transactions, activities and products of Standard Chartered Saadiq UAE. The Committee currently comprises of some of the most renowned and respected scholars on Islamic Banking and finance:

Dr. Ahcene Lahsasna Dr. Ahcene Lahsasna, ISSC Chairman

Holds a bachelor’s degree in Islamic law and jurisprudence from the university of Emir Abdel Kader, Algeria and has a masters and PhD from International Islamic University Malaysia.

  • Chief Executive Officer of Salihin Shari’ah Advisory and the Chief Academic Officer of Salihin Academy, a council member of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council, and the Academic Director of Singapore Islamic Finance Academy
  • He has authored more than 20 books and has been the recipient of the Global Business Leadership Islamic Finance Award in 2017 and 2019. and currently chairs the Shari’ah Committee of Standard Chartered’ s Saadiq Bank (Malaysia).
Dr. Salim Al-Ali Dr. Salim Al-Ali

Holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Financial Law from the University of London, United Kingdom (UK) and masters in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

  • He has a wide research background with more than 10 years’ experience in academic institutions in the UK and the UAE Emirates (UAE).
  • He has been awarded the Rashid Award for scientific achievement and also serves as a Shari’ah board member in many Islamic banks in the UAE.
Dr Amin Fateh Dr. Amin Fateh

Holds a degree in Shari’ah and PhD in Islamic studies from the University of Birmingham, UK. Currently, he serves as General Manager of Minhaj Advisory in Dubai, UAE.

  • Dr. Fateh served as an instructor in Shari’ah Management at Kuwait Finance House, a lecturer at University of Women in Jordan, and a lecturer at the Islamic American University in the United States of America (USA)
  • Dr. Fateh has advised many Islamic institutions including Faisal Islamic Bank Sudan and Salama – Islamic Arab Insurance Company. He was the founding member of the Shari’ah Scholars Association of North America, and a former member of the Fiqh Council in the USA. Dr. Fateh has delivered many lectures and provided many trainings on Islamic studies/Islamic banking, both in English and Arabic
Dr Ibrahim Al Mansoori Dr. Ibrahim Al Mansoori

Serves as Director of Sharjah Islamic Centre for Economy & Finance Studies. Dr. Ibrahim was a faculty member in the College of Shari’ah  and Islamic Studies, University of Sharjah. He was a faculty member in Ajman University for Sciences and Technology and an Educational Controller on the Ministry of Education, UAE .

  • He held many academic and professional positions including as a teacher at the Ministry of Education, UAE, Director of Irtiqaa Centre for Consulting and Training, and Director of Innovation Centre for Consulting and Training and has a wide research background with more than 10 years’ experience in academic institutions in the UK and UAE.
  • He also serves as a Shari’ah board member in many local and international financial institutions. He is the author of various studies and papers on contemporary matters relating to Islamic Banking and various Shari’ah issues.
Prof Dr. Ashraf bin Md Hashim Prof Dr. Ashraf bin Md Hashim

Holds a degree in Shari’ah from Islamic University in Medina, Saudi Arabia, Masters in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from University of Jordan, Postgraduate Diploma in Shari’ah Law and Practice (DSLP) from International Islamic University Malaysia and PhD (Islamic Law) from University of Birmingham, UK.

                                   
  • He is the Chief Executive Officer of ISRA International Consulting and a professor at International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).
  • He currently sits on the Central Bank of Malaysia’s Shari’ah Advisory Council (SAC BNM) as Deputy Chairman and the Securities Commission of Malaysia’s Shari’ah Advisory Council (SAC SC).
  • He is also currently a member of Shari’ah Committee for International Islamic Liquidity Management Cooperation (IILM) and the Chairman of Shari’ah Committee of Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia Exchange House).  In addition, he also serves as a member of National Fatwa Council of Malaysia, a Shari’ah committee member of Yayasan Waqf Malaysia (Malaysia Waqf Foundation), State Development Cooperation of Kelantan (SEDC), a committee member for Waqf Committee for Kelantan Religious Council and Finance and Investment Committee member for Selangor Religious Council.
