Using Standard Chartered's Breeze at Everest Base Camp, 5,364m above sea level, the Horacios successfully transferred money and placed an order on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
But they're aiming much higher than that. In the next few weeks, the Horacios are looking to set a record that can never be broken: a transaction on top of the world’s tallest mountain. And while banking at Base Camp might be easy, banking on the summit of Mount Everest is a whole other matter.
The technology behind the transaction
To successfully complete the first stock trade on Earth, Horacio and Horacio are relying on several key pieces of technology. In addition to the walkie-talkies and Iridium satellite phones that have been part of Everest summit attempts for years, the Horacios will also be carrying some smartphones that they’ll use to run the Breeze mobile application. And to keep their equipment charged on Everest, they have brought along a solar charging pack.
Breeze Mobile, meet gale-force winds
Between howling winds, freezing temperatures and a severe lack of oxygen, it's not every banking platform that can handle being used on the peak of Mount Everest. But Breeze's intuitive, easy-to-use interface makes mobile banking so easy you can do it wherever you are. Even if you’re on top of the world's tallest mountain.
