For thousands of years, Mount Everest has been a holy place for those who live in its shadow. More recently though, the world's highest mountain has become the holy grail of mountaineering. While it may not be the world's steepest peak, or its most dangerous, it's the roof of the world - the highest place on planet Earth - and the allure of this magnificent mountain is impossible to deny.
Cleaning up Everest
Its appeal to climbers and tourists has also made Everest one of the world's most polluted mountains, with tons of rubbish left there over the years. The slopes are littered with frozen oxygen tanks, food tins, climbing equipment and human waste.
Enter Horacio Galanti and Horacio Cunietti, mountaineers with a mission. Right now, they’re more than halfway up. Their aim? To scale Earth's mightiest mountain and clean some of it up while they're at it. We're proud to be associated with this endeavour. Mount Everest is a treasure, not just for mountaineers or for the people of Nepal, but for all of humanity.
Banking on a world record
When they reach the summit, Horacio and Horacio won't just be fulfilling a lifelong dream; they'll also be attempting to set a new world record - using our mobile banking app, Breeze, to perform the highest banking transaction on Earth.
We’ll be bringing you their story as it unfolds, so stay tuned for updates on this blog.
