Standard Chartered Bank AG appoints Sonia Wentzel as Head of Corporate & Institutional Banking, International Corporates for DACH region

1 November, Frankfurt – Standard Chartered Bank AG has appointed Sonia Wentzel, internationally experienced top banker, as Head of Corporate & Institutional Banking, International Corporates for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Wentzel joins from Deutsche Bank AG, where she held a number of positions over 18 years, most recently as Head of Cologne Market Area, Corporate Clients. 

At Standard Chartered, Wentzel will lead the client coverage team based out of Frankfurt, supporting international and German corporates with their business needs in Asia, Africa and the Middle East – Standard Chartered Bank’s core markets. Wentzel’s internationality and her Asian experience are great assets in her new position.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, she studied law and began her professional career at an international commercial law firm. She moved to Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt in 2004 to join the Global Banking Division. Via Amsterdam, New York, Stuttgart and Buenos Aires, her professional career took her to Singapore and then to Beijing and Shanghai in 2016, where she was most recently Head of China Subsidiary Coverage EMEA exDACH/US/APAC, looking after Chinese subsidiaries of corporates from Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. In September 2020, Sonia Wentzel returned to Germany, where she took over as Market Area Head Cologne in the Corporate Clients division for Deutsche Bank.
