China’s economic prosperity has bypassed Dushi Village, where Jinying grew up. But his father’s rural-urban migration showed him what you could achieve with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Jinying says: “From a farmer to a construction worker in the city, my father became not just a contractor, but also an entrepreneur who talked to the villagers to understand their concerns and help them find a job in the city using his network.”
Reaching for the future
Jinying is a hard-working and diligent student who went to Guangdong Pharmaceutical University to study preventive medicine. Then, he joined Futuremakers’ Entrepreneurs for Growth programme, delivered in partnership with the Standard Chartered Foundation and Enactus China. He says: “I entered the Reach for the Future innovation competition as part of a team, where we had the opportunity to meet industry people and introduce our business project, gain skills and secure investment.”
Jinying led the team to explore the use of eco enzymes from food waste to feed animals. He explains: “It is tough for graduates to start a successful business in China because young people don’t have access to the tools, expertise and right partners. Luckily, we got all this support from the programme and won the competition.”
On the road to change
The Entrepreneurs for Growth programme empowered Jinying to fulfil his ambition through business training, mentorship and networking opportunities. He says: “By continuing my business project, I hope to bring positive value, help create jobs, and build economic and social value to society.”
