What attracted you to join Standard Chartered’s Technology Team?

When I was 27, I received a call from a recruitment agent asking if I would be interested in a position at Standard Chartered, Singapore. Naturally, I did my research on the bank and the job, and I realised it aligned perfectly with my values and interests. The rest, as they say, is history! It's been an incredible 17 years and I haven't looked back.

What is your proudest achievement in your career with Standard Chartered so far?

My proudest achievement since joining the Bank was when I played a key role in migrating processes to Malaysia and India. In 2018, I was also involved in setting up the Equity Confirmations Team, which eventually expanded to cover all asset classes. It was amazing to be a part of its journey towards becoming a fully-functioning team. Another achievement I'm proud of is the migration of a trade control system from Kuala Lumpur to India in late 2019/20. My contributions towards these projects have helped me grow both professionally and personally.

What do you love the most about your job?

The ups and downs of my role keep things exciting. Plus, the learning and growth opportunities are abundant, which I find incredibly fulfilling. Interacting with my awesome colleagues, who share similar mindsets, is another highlight. The leadership at Standard Chartered are truly inspiring and motivates me to always do my best. There's never a dull moment in my work – every day brings fresh chances to learn and grow.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far in your role?

One of the biggest challenges I have faced has been dealing with Standard Chartered's extensive footprint, especially with its focus on emerging markets. The business keeps expanding rapidly, and our clients have ever-evolving requirements. This constantly puts me in a tricky spot – figuring out how to align the business demands, meet client expectations, and work with our existing infrastructure. It's like solving a complex puzzle, but I must say, it's also an opportunity for innovation and finding creative solutions. Although it's been tough, it's also been incredibly rewarding to navigate through these challenges and come out stronger on the other side.

How would you describe the culture in the Technology Team?

The culture in Standard Chartered’s technology team is pretty awesome! We've got a fantastic group of energetic individuals, a mix of both young and experienced folk. It's like a perfect blend that brings fresh ideas and seasoned wisdom together. We support and uplift each other, creating a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere.
