Being a part of a digital transformation
As a Business Analyst within Standard Chartered’s technology function, Beatrice is responsible for driving positive change by utilising the latest technologies. Today, she tells us about her journey with Standard Chartered, life in the technology team and what she has achieved in the three years that she has spent with us.
What attracted you to join the Standard Chartered technology team?
Prior to joining Standard Chartered in 2019, I had little experience within the banking industry. Many of my colleagues from previous roles had spent time with Standard Chartered and they all spoke very highly of the modern ways of working at the Bank. Everyone is treated with respect and management is willing to hear the thoughts of everyone within the organisation. The culture at Standard Chartered is what truly sets them apart from other Banks and this is what attracted me to join the technology team.
Can you tell us a little bit about some of the projects you are working on at the moment?
Aside from the day-to-day responsibilities of my role, I work on numerous exciting projects. I recently started working on a new system called Razor, which is a global front-to-back trade processing system used by both the FX and MM market users. It has been very impressive to see what goes on behind the scenes and I have learned a lot from being a part of a project for its entire duration. I am also working on sunsetting a trade processing system. I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this process as it is an uncommon project to work on and hard to come by whilst working at a bank.
What has been your proudest achievement since joining Standard Chartered?
My proudest and most memorable achievement since joining Standard Chartered would have to be being a key part of the team that launched and successfully rolled out a new branch in Saudi Arabia amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. It was certainly not the easiest having to work across over 40 financial markets and over 100 teams within the Standard Chartered network, but with such a talented and diverse team, anything is possible.
What do you love the most about your job?
The responsibilities of my role at Standard Chartered allow me to directly impact the progression of the business. I get to work on projects that bring value to our customers and my colleagues. My work helps people to solve real problems and improve people’s experiences of Standard Chartered, which brings me so much joy and satisfaction. Overall my role is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, which is what I love the most.
How would you describe the culture in the technology team?
The culture in the technology team is highly collaborative and we support each other both professionally and personally. We are all high achievers and I truly attribute that to how well we come together as a team. I must say, we have definitely embraced Standard Chartered’s value of being better together with great enthusiasm!
What would surprise people about working at Standard Chartered?
Standard Chartered cares about our personal development to the point where there is a fully funded programme dedicated to our success. SkillsFuture is Standard Chartered’s own scheme that ensures there are plenty of opportunities for everyone within the Bank to progress and develop their skills. I wholeheartedly believe that Standard Chartered’s commitment to employee development is what sets them apart from other organisations and I am incredibly proud to be a part of a Bank that truly cares for its employees.
