Working agency side and as a self-employed consultant has given me strong discipline and work ethics.
Etienne Clergue – I let music guide my days
Etienne, Director, group web & social media channels tells us what keeps him motivated and gets him through the day
My career journey, although all in digital marketing, is a mix of client-side and agency/consultancy work. During my career I’ve worked for family run businesses, start-ups, multinational businesses and finally global corporations at the bank. I’ve also worked in a very wide range of industries, from antibodies for scientific research to retail and financial services, so it’s been a real mix
What drew me to working at Standard Chartered was working for a truly global business and the possibilities Standard Chartered could offer to further my career. I really enjoy interacting with colleagues from across the globe on a daily basis and the ability I feel I have to make a difference.
Give us an example of how you live by Standard Chartered’s values - doing the right thing, better together and never settle?
I always question decisions to ensure they help us move forward and not stagnate. I also treat all stakeholders engaging with me as clients, if they’re not happy with my work, then I’ve not done a good enough job.
What advice/hints and tips, would you give to someone looking to work at Standard Chartered?
Be confident and show initiative.
How should someone prepare for an interview with Standard Chartered?
By understanding what the Bank’s values are and what it stands for will really help when trying to articulate why you want to work here.
What’s your professional / personal goal for 2022?
Deliver against my objectives and get the bank to a better place with their digital standards.
My advice? Always be proactive
Moving to the UK to finish university really shaped my current career, so much so that I have actually never worked in France which is where I am from.
Making hard decisions by leaving companies where I didn’t feel comfortable and felt that my career was stagnating.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I’ve become a bit of a Netflix addict in the past few years (thanks COVID!), but I also exercise quite a bit (cycling) and enjoy gaming on my PS5.
Are there any skills you’re trying to learn?
I’ve just passed my Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) exam and I’m hoping to become Agile certified next year.
Tell us something people don’t know about you?
When I’m not on calls I always have music playing in my home office, I find it hard to work in silence.
