Life as a Support Specialist at Standard Chartered – Lani-Ann’s story.
I am currently working as a Support Specialist within the technology team and I am responsible for communicating with and assisting users with their functional queries as well as ensuring that our support applications run smoothly. I thoroughly enjoy helping people and I get a lot of satisfaction from the responsibilities of my role. I also support my team with producing reports regarding the assistance we have provided in preparation for presentations for senior management.
What has been your proudest achievement since joining Standard Chartered?
My proudest achievement with Standard Chartered has to be being presented with the Service Star Award in 2015. I am incredibly proud that my work was at a level that was recognised and awarded by Standard Chartered’s senior leadership and it motivated me to continue with my hard work. It is fantastic to be a part of an organisation that elevates and rewards its talent!
What are you most looking forward to professionally in 2023?
In 2023 I am most looking forward to utilising the countless opportunities provided by Standard Chartered to grow and develop my skills! I am also excited to collaborate with my team on the exciting upcoming projects that we have lined up for the coming year. Working with the newest technologies means that no day is ever the same and I am always learning!
How would you describe the culture in your team?
My team is exceedingly diverse, which means I get to work with a wide range of individuals with different personalities and strengths! This cultivates a unique working environment where I can constantly learn whilst also teaching my colleagues new things. I’d describe the culture of our team as incredibly collaborative and supportive and I am very proud to be a part of it.
What would surprise people about working at Standard Chartered?
Standard Chartered’s commitment to providing the option of flexible working to every employee means that we all benefit from a healthy work-to-life balance. I believe that this would surprise people as it differs greatly from the working requirements typically experienced in the banking industry. Our diverse talent pool is also very refreshing - I have had the opportunity to meet a wide range of people from different backgrounds thanks to the Bank’s dedication to supporting its employees to build global careers. Overall, despite having a rich and longstanding history within the industry, Standard Chartered has created a unique and modern working environment for its employees to thrive.
How do you like to spend your free time?
With Standard Chartered’s flexible working policies, I am able to balance my working requirements with my family life. I spend most of my free time with my daughter by going to the mall, taking her out to eat, singing our hearts out to karaoke, playing with dolls or shopping. I am very grateful to be a part of an organisation that allows me to continue working and accelerating my career whilst spending quality time with my daughter. Despite being a working mother, I haven’t missed a moment of my daughter's early years and for that, I couldn’t be more thankful.
