What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
Upon starting my journey with the Bank, my manager at the time shared the most important piece of career advice that I have ever been given and it has been intrinsic to my professional development. My manager told me to understand my strengths and showcase them at every opportunity that I have, he also encouraged me to identify what motivates and inspires me as this is the biggest driver to success.
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
The biggest challenge I have faced in my professional life was adjusting to my role upon returning to the Bank. Prior to my return, I had spent seven years running my own business. It was incredibly challenging to restart my career in banking at the age of 33, but I honestly could not have chosen a better organisation to start fresh with. Standard Chartered gave me the space and support to refresh my skills and I am incredibly grateful for how they accommodated me through this transition.
What’s the best thing about working for Standard Chartered?
I believe that the best thing is how the Bank prioritises recognising and rewarding its employees for their hard work and accomplishments. Everyone is duly recognised for their performance Over the past four years, not one of my achievements has gone unnoticed or unappreciated. Even the smallest achievement is highlighted and celebrated by management. The recognition that I have received is unparalleled and has truly motivated me to always do my best.
What makes working at Standard Chartered unique?
The collaborative nature between the different departments at Standard Chartered creates a genuinely different experience from working at other Banks. This does not only help the Bank to grow, but it also gives people the opportunity to develop a well rounded understanding of how different functions come together to achieve their common goals. In the past four years that I have spent with the Bank, I have witnessed countless successful partnerships between acquisition, branch and working capital teams. I have learned a lot about the different roles and responsibilities that are intrinsic to the success of the Bank and I believe that the knowledge I have acquired whilst collaborating with other functions has helped to accelerate my career.
