Our female leaders – Aishwarya’s story

Having started as a college intern in 2008, Aishwarya was immediately drawn to the Bank's open culture, flexible work approach, and commitment to cutting-edge technologies. Fifteen years later, Aishwarya couldn't imagine working anywhere else. In this article, we will explore Aishwarya’s experiences at Standard Chartered, her proudest achievements, and the Technology team's culture.

What attracted you to join Standard Chartered’s Technology team?

My journey with Standard Chartered’s Technology Team began in 2008 as a college intern. I was initially drawn to the position due to the Bank’s open culture, flexible approach to work and commitment to using the latest technologies. It has been 15 years since I first joined Standard Chartered and those same factors are more apparent than ever. Standard Chartered has accompanied me through the key transitions of my life and I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.

What do you love the most about your job?

My favourite aspect of my job is the constant learning. There is never a day where I have not learnt something new from my colleagues or the exciting projects we work on. My role as a Systems Reliability Engineer allows me to gain a broad perspective of a product from a technological and functional standpoint. Having such a unique insight into operations has allowed me to expand my knowledge at an exponential rate!

What is your proudest achievement since joining the Bank?

Early in my career with Standard Chartered, I was entrusted with a significant opportunity to lead the migration and development of an application from a vendor-based solution to an in-house one. This was a substantial challenge, as it involved managing the project from start to finish - from planning and financial management to functional and technical delivery. Though it was one of the most demanding months of my career, the trust and support from my manager and team made it all worthwhile in the end.

Can you tell us a little about your role?

As a member of the Production Engineering function of the Technology Team, my primary focus is managing the Bank’s Straight2Bank NextGen platform. This involves working closely with various teams to identify and address any issues that may arise, as well as continuously seeking out ways to enhance the platform and make it even more user-friendly for our clients. Being a part of Standard Chartered’s Technology Team has given me a great sense of purpose, as I know that the work we do has a significant impact on the success of the platform and the satisfaction of our clients.

How would you describe the culture of your team?

Collaboration, trust, and support are at the core of our team. We put our clients at the centre of everything we do and work together to deliver a quality service. My team’s commitment to excellence and supporting one another to achieve our shared goals inspires me every day!

What would you say to someone thinking about making the move from a technology organisation to Standard Chartered?

My advice to anyone thinking about making the move to Standard Chartered is to take the leap and become a part of our dynamic team. At Standard Chartered, you will not only improve your technical skills, but you will also gain a deeper understanding of the impact of your work. There are countless opportunities to innovate, grow and learn. Join us and discover the best version of yourself as a techie!
