Hiring for early careers – Jessica Barton

Jessica gives us her hints and tips for interviewing at Standard Chartered

Role and market type of area you recruit:

Early Careers Specialist – Europe, America, Africa and Middle East

What advice would you give to candidates looking for a student role?

Think about what you want to get out of the role. For example, if you’re already certain of which business area and team you want to join, then perhaps a ‘straight to desk’/Analyst role is more suitable. If you’re keep to explore as much as you can about a business area before making a decision on what specific team you want to join – then the rotation structure on our International Graduate programme would be ideal. If you know you want to work in finance but not sure which business area – join one of our regional networking events to learn more.

How can candidates prepare for our recruitment process?

Practise your interview technique; I like the ‘STAR’ method when answering questions as it can help you answer in a more structured way – Situation, Task, Action, Result.
