Simplifying technology for the Bank and our customers – Senthil’s story

After joining the Bank in 2014, Senthil Loganathan took on his new role as the Chief Cloud Architect within the Technology, Strategy and Architecture team in 2022. With some of the industry's most exciting and challenging transformation projects, Senthil and his team drive innovation and positive change whilst improving the banking experience for their colleagues and customers alike.

What are the responsibilities of your role?

As a Chief Architect, I am responsible for driving our cloud strategy and architecture for the Bank which is closely aligned to business objectives and more focused on delivering value. I am committed to accelerating the Bank’s journey to simplification by embracing cloud-based technologies and pioneering lifestyle changes within the Bank.

Tell us about an exciting project you worked on at Standard Chartered.

I am currently working on the “Our Cloud Platform” project; a revolutionary overhaul of our current cloud system. During this project, I have worked closely with multiple teams across the organisation to build a hybrid cloud platform for the bank on our own terms. Since starting my journey with Standard Chartered in 2014, I have had the opportunity to innovate and make a real difference through technology and this project is a notable example of what is possible when a team of great minds come together.

How would you describe the culture of your team?

Since joining the Transformation, Technology and Operations (TTO) team at Standard Chartered I have been able to benefit from the support and encouragement of my colleagues. Every day my team inspires me to be the change I want to see in the world. Our team culture is characterised by openness, a real willingness to share our skills and being there for one another, whether that is personally or professionally. We are like one big family that works together to reach our common goals and drive positive change through technology.

What are you looking forward to in the future with Standard Chartered?

Standard Chartered is a leading international bank that understands the importance of utilising the newest technologies. Because of this, I have access to the latest technology to simplify processes for my colleagues and clients. In 2023, I look forward to continuing my work towards streamlining the Bank’s digital architecture and creating a frictionless experience for everyone who uses the Bank’s services.

What is life like at Standard Chartered compared to other places where you have worked?

Standard Chartered is a bank with a heart and is dedicated to being a force for good. Prior to joining the Bank, I solely worked for organisations that specialised in technology, but since making the move to the Bank, I have been able to work directly with the people who will benefit from my work. It is very fulfilling to see the fruits of my efforts and I feel incredibly connected to every project I work on.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far in your role?

Embracing change can be challenging, especially when it requires getting to grips with new technologies, systems, and strategies. Since taking on my new role, I have rolled out a radical new approach to the Bank’s cloud platforms. Helping my colleagues to become comfortable with the new hybrid cloud strategy has been challenging, but my team and I have been dedicated to supporting everyone to feel confident with the new platform. At Standard Chartered we live by the values of being here for good, never settle and being better together, and I believe that my team’s commitment to building our colleague's confidence with the new platform is a testament to our values.
