A woman in finance

Reflecting on your experience as a woman in finance at Standard Chartered, could you share insights into your journey, highlighting key milestones, challenges overcome, and strategies to succeed in your career within the organisation?

In my journey at Standard Chartered, achieving key milestones like transforming the UAE franchise into one of the top three global markets for the Group was incredibly rewarding. However, the milestone that stands out for me was championing diversity and inclusion, working to foster a culture of acceptance within the organisation. Pushing forward this agenda demanded unwavering determination and resilience, turning challenges into an exciting and fulfilling experience.

Key strategies contributing to my success included a commitment to continuous learning, building a robust professional network, and actively seeking opportunities for self-advancement. Maintaining a forward-thinking mindset has been instrumental in propelling my career within Standard Chartered. Overall, this journey has been marked by tangible achievements and a dedication to creating a more inclusive and successful finance environment.

Confidence is key

As an influential leader in the finance sector, what key challenges do you believe women still face in advancing their careers, and what actionable steps do you recommend to address these challenges effectively?

One of the primary challenges for women advancing in the finance sector is overcoming self-doubt. Confidence is crucial in navigating professional tasks, and self-advocacy is key in communicating aspirations, accomplishments, and concerns. To build a strong professional voice, collaboration with like-minded individuals is essential, as collective efforts often yield greater success.

Furthermore, don’t hesitate to advocate for systemic changes within your organisation or industry, serving as a catalyst for positive transformations in policies and practices. This proactive approach not only overcomes obstacles but actively shapes a path for sustained success.
