Please note, an update on this civil litigation is available here.

London – We have released the below statement today in response to media reports regarding a submission made in a civil litigation pending in US courts filed on 31 May 2024 (U.S., ex rel. Brutus Trading, LLC v. Standard Chartered Bank (1:18-cv-11117)).  This submission relates to repeated claims against the Bank that the plaintiff has been pressing unsuccessfully since 2012.  This latest filing is an attempt to reopen a case that was initially filed in 2018 and has been previously dismissed, with the dismissal upheld on appeal by US courts.

“This filing is another attempt to use fabricated claims against the bank, following previous unsuccessful attempts. The false allegations underpinning it have been thoroughly discredited by the U.S. authorities who undertook a comprehensive investigation into the claims and said they were ‘meritless’ and did not show any violations of US sanctions. We are confident the courts will reject these claims, as they have already done repeatedly.”
