Qatar Airways and Standard Chartered, through its award-winning aviation finance arm, Pembroke, have successfully closed a sale and operating leaseback transaction for eight A320-200 aircraft.

The first four aircraft were delivered on 28 April and the remaining four aircraft will be delivered by November this year. This transaction is the second sale and leaseback transaction entered into by Qatar Airways with Standard Chartered, and structured and arranged exclusively by the Bank. It follows the sale and leaseback transaction announced in September 2014 for five B787-8 aircraft and three B777-300ER aircraft.

This recent transaction highlights the Bank’s commitment to Qatar and its strategy of leveraging its global network and world class innovative financial products to support the international expansion of Qatari corporates and institutions.

Kieran Corr, Head, Aviation Finance at Standard Chartered said: “Qatar Airways is a long-standing client of Standard Chartered and we are delighted to have structured and arranged another sale and leaseback transaction for the airline. We are proud to be supporting Qatar Airways as they expand their fleet to meet increasing air traffic demand across one of the world’s fastest growing regions.”

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways celebrated its one year anniversary, in October 2014, of joining the oneworld global alliance. Qatar Airways was the first Gulf carrier to join this global airline alliance, enabling its passengers to benefit from almost 1,000 airports in more than 150 countries, with 14,250 daily departures. The award-winning oneworld alliance was named the World’s Best Airline Alliance 2014 by Skytrax for the second year running.

Qatar Airways recently launched Oryx One, an enhanced interface for its inflight entertainment system, increasing the number of movies and TV shows on board from 950 to up to 2,000. Passengers flying on Qatar Airways flights served by its B787, A350, A380, A319 and select A330 aircraft can also stay in touch with their friends and family around the world by using the five-star airline’s on-board Wifi and GSM service.
