Highly experienced CSO will lead team combining Group sustainability strategy and client solutions

London, Singapore – Standard Chartered today announced that Marisa Drew will join the Bank as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), effective 1 July 2022.

Ms Drew joins from Credit Suisse, where she was CSO and Global Head of the Sustainability Strategy, Advisory & Finance Group, with responsibility for strategy and creating sustainable investment products on behalf of the bank’s wealth management, institutional and corporate clients. In addition to establishing the firm’s Impact Advisory and Finance department in 2017, her previous roles include Co-Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets for EMEA and Global Co-Head of the Global Markets Solutions Group. Before joining Credit Suisse, Ms Drew worked for Merrill Lynch and Kidder Peabody.

At Standard Chartered, Ms Drew will chair the Group Sustainability Forum, drive the Bank’s net zero commitments and oversee the existing Sustainable Finance and Sustainability Strategy teams. She will report to Simon Cooper, CEO, Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking (CCIB) and join the CCIB Management Team.

Mr Cooper said: “I am delighted that Marisa is joining us to help drive our sustainability agenda as we increasingly embed ESG and SDG-related priorities into the work we do for clients and the communities where we operate, and as we continue to develop and recruit world-class talent for our sustainability team. With a presence in so many parts of the world where sustainable finance can have the greatest impact, we are very well placed to help reduce emissions, mobilise capital and develop innovative solutions, underpinned by our digital infrastructure and data analytics, to support the energy transition. I look forward to working with Marisa and our talented teams to deliver on those priorities and help our clients achieve their sustainability goals.”

Bill Winters, CEO, Standard Chartered, said: “We’ve made great progress on our sustainability agenda and on building a leading sustainable finance franchise; we are gearing up to push ahead even faster to deliver on this critical pillar of our strategy, and we’re very pleased that Marisa is joining us to spearhead that effort.”

Ms Drew sits on the Advisory Board of the Aspen Institute UK and the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy. She is a member of the FCA’s Markets Practitioner Panel and several High-Level Working Groups (HLGs) sponsored by the World Economic Forum and the UN, including serving as co-chair of the HLG for Humanitarian Aid and the Oceans Panel. She has been recognised by the BBC as one of the Most Powerful Women in Britain and by Fortune Magazine as one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in International Business.

Ms Drew said: “I am very excited to be joining an organisation with such a deep institutional commitment to sustainability, with accomplishments to date ranging from the delivery of public net zero targets to leadership in voluntary carbon markets, to ground-breaking innovation in green, transition and social finance. The need to mobilise private capital at scale in developing markets is critical, and I look forward to partnering with the bank’s dedicated sustainability professionals and colleagues across the network to help build on this excellent foundation.”
