Important Information

Cessation of Use of Chequebook with Bank Code 7144 for Business Banking

Please be advised that with effect from 19 September 2020 (inclusive), Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) Limited (the “Bank”) will formally cease to operate under its former bank code, 7144, and will stop processing deposited cheques with the former bank code 7144 after 18 September 2020. These cheques will be returned to the payee or beneficiary.

Since 6 March 2017, the Bank has been operating under a new bank code, 9496, and all clients are advised to destroy cheque books and stop issuing cheques with the bank code 7144 with immediate effect. There will be no impact to cheques with the new bank code, 9496.

To request for a cheque book* with the new bank code 9496, please write to us on your company letterhead, signed off by an authorised person, to the following address:

3.  Will this affect my outgoing payments?

Cheques with the former bank code, 7144, that are presented for clearing after 18 September 2020 will not be processed and will be returned to the payee / beneficiary. Cheques presented for clearing on or before 18 September 2020 will not be affected.

To ensure that your outgoing payments will not be affected, please issue cheques with the new bank code, 9496.

Cheques issued with the new bank code 9496 will not be affected.

4. Will this change impact my other transactions such as TT, GIRO and other payments?

There will be no impact to other transactions and they will continue to be processed.
