Investors subscribing “Non-discretionary money trust investments in domestic and foreign negotiable securities” through Standard Chartered Bank, please note:

  1. There are risks inherent in every trust investment. Subscribers should carefully read all trust contracts and agreements before subscribing.
  2. Trust assets are considered assets outside of normal savings and deposits, and are not eligible for deposit insurance coverage.
  3. Other than Standard Chartered Bank’s fiduciary duties, the bank is not responsible for trust investment management or losses on investment principals, and the bank does not guarantee a minimum return on any investment. Fund investors/beneficiaries are solely responsible for any potential gains and losses.
  4. Fund investments are not eligible for deposit insurance coverage. There are risks inherent in fund investments, and may result in losses on principals.
  5. Because fund investments are not considered savings or deposits, investors are solely responsible for their gains or losses and cannot expect deposit insurance coverage from the bank on their fund investments. Investors with different subscription dates will have different fund performance results, and past performances do not guarantee future results. Other than Standard Chartered Bank’s fiduciary duties, investors are solely responsible for any potential gains and losses on their principals, losses due to exchange rates, or risks due to fund dissolutions, liquidations, transfers or mergers.
  6. Just because a domestic or foreign fund is approved by the FSC (FSC check if this is the correct English name) does not mean there are no risks inherent in the fund. A fund company manager’s past performance does not guarantee a fund’s future investment result, so investors should chose their investments carefully. Also, a fund manager’s past performance does not guarantee a minimum return on investment. Other than the fund company’s fiduciary duties, the fund company is not responsible for any gains or losses, and does not guarantee a minimum return on investments. It is recommended that investors carefully read the fund prospectus before subscribing to any fund.
  7. A fund’s interest rate or dividend rate does not represent a fund’s return. In addition, a fund’s past interest/dividend rate does not guarantee the fund will issue the same interest/dividend rate in the future. A fund’s net asset value may also change due to fluctuations in the market.
  8. Fund costs (and foreign fund distribution costs) are disclosed in the fund’s prospectus or notices to the investors. Investors can also find more information about fund costs from Fund Clear (http://www.fundclear.com).

Online Security

Online Banking Security Overview

Online Banking Password Security Mechanism

We use a “fixed password” + “SMS OTP” at each level to ensure your online banking transactions are safe and secure, allowing you to use our internet services easily and comfortably.

Use of “fixed password” +”SMS OTP”
You can log in with your self-set “fixed password” and complete a wide range of low-risk transactions and services. To use higher risk services, you will need to enter your “SMS OTP” for security purposes. “SMS OTP” is a one-time password. That is sent to your mobile phone every time you make a request and is valid for 100 seconds. Each password can only be used once.

In addition, 128-bit SSL encryption is used for all personal internal banking data transfers. How do you know when you have entered an encrypted environment? Check and see if the internet address (URL) begins with “https”, and then make sure the lock icon in your browser actually appears locked. If yes, then any information you send out is protected by encryption, which means your data can’t be accessed by a third party during the transfer process.

Multi-Layer Protection for a Secure Web Environment

Identity confirmation
When you log into Standard Chartered’s online banking, you will need to enter your ID number, user name, and password. In the case of 3 consecutive failed logins, the system will automatically place a temporary lock on your account to ensure security. Please refer to the instructions provided by the bank in order to unlock your account.

Guarding your transactions
Before confirming a specific transaction, you will be asked to enter your fixed password or SMS password a second time for security reasons (please follow the instructions provided). Your transaction will be completed after a system confirmation is complete.

No simultaneous logins
The Bank will always identify the Customers’ log-in with their Username, National ID number and Online Banking password used for logging in and using the Service as the Customers’ valid instruction. With regard to Online Banking and Mobile Banking, one National ID may only be used to log into single application at a time. Where there are multiple successful login attempts, the second login will cause the first login to be invalidated.

Automatic log out
If you do not complete a transaction within 9 minutes of logging into Standard Chartered’s online banking, the system will send out an automatic reminder asking if you wish to continue to use the service. If there is no response within 1 minute, we will automatically log you out to ensure your account safety.

Protecting Your security
Standard Chartered online banking is monitored by our expert staff 24 hours a day to prevent abnormal transactions and unauthorized log-ins. We are committed to providing safe and secure transactions and services at all times. If you have any questions or problems during your use, please contact our 24 hour customer service center at 02-4058-0088, we will provide you with the most caring services.

Security Mechanism Overview
  • Standard Chartered online banking adopts the advanced SSL security mechanism that is a symmetric encryption/decryption to provide whole data encryption, ensuring the data privacy and completeness without being intercepted or cracked during transfer. “Password” and “SMS password” security mechanisms are also used to further protect your online transaction and personal information.
  • Check your SMS:
    1. Whenever you wish to perform an undesignated transfer in online banking we will send a set of 6 digit one-time-use password and a partial information of the transaction to your mobile phone number through SMS.
    2. Please verify the transaction information in the SMS is accurate, then proceed to enter the one-time-use password on the webpage.
    3. Do not let any third party know your one-time use password (Standard Chartered will never ask for your password).
    4. You will also receive an e-mail notification (if an e-mail address is saved) after the completion of your transaction, please verify the transaction information in your e-mail notification.
  • Please verify the date and time of your last log-in whenever you log in to online banking.
  • Regularly check your account balances and monthly statement, to see if there’s any irregular transaction.
  • If you need to change your contact information, please visit our branches or contact customer service centre.
Precautions for Use of Online Banking
  1. Please be aware of Malware attacks
  2. To protect your rights and interests, the system will ask you to re-log in if there’s any action within 10 minutes after logging in to online banking; and as a result of system processing account transfers, during certain transaction hours account transfers will not be available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused! After using Standard Chartered online banking services or the SC Mobile App, please remember to log out and close the internet browser window. Never leave your computer unattended during your online banking session.
    1. When logging in to Online or Mobile Banking, safeguard your login details by keeping them away from prying eyes.
    2. Customers who use password to log in, in case of consecutive failed log-in attempts or forgotten username, please refer to online instructions to unlock the account.
    3. Make a habit of changing your Username or Password regularly as it can further protect your online banking security. Do not use personal information as your PIN or Password that can be easily guessed or retrieved by fraudulent parties, e.g., ID number, date of birth, full name, address, mobile and phone number. Refrain from using these and ensure your bank account password is unique from your other passwords. Keep your account information private, and do not share your customized username or Password with other individuals. Do not write down and keep your PIN or Password in a place where it can easily be obtained or seen by unwanted individuals.
    4. Pay attention to your Transaction Notification when you receive it via e-mail. Try to immediately verify the transaction and if you find or suspect that your online banking account has been used by unauthorized individuals, please contact our Customer Service Line at 02-4058-0088.
    5. Please store your “mobile phone” in a safe place:
“Mobile phone ” means the specified cell phone number to receive SMS password and its hardware and software including the SIM card and documents, please keep properly and do not transfer, lend to, or in any way give to any other third party. Please keep your user number and password safe and never give your password to a third party. (Reminder: Standard Chartered staff will never ask you for your password). Please do not store your username, password or account number on your mobile phone.
    6. Never respond to unsolicited emails, phone calls or texts. Scammers are clever at impersonating someone you trust, such as a police officer or a Bank representative. If you receive a suspicious email, text or phone call allegedly from the Bank, please check the identity of the sender or caller with us immediately.
    7. Beware of payment or fund transfer requests from people you don’t know. If you are unsure, speak to someone you trust or contact us before making any payment or cash transfer. Watch out for unauthorized cash deposits or withdrawals on your account, they could be fraudulent transactions.
    8. Do not use public computers (e.g., Internet Café, Public Library, Hotels, etc.) to logon to your online banking services. Always pay attention to your surroundings to prevent individuals from seeing your personal login information.
    9. Beware of phishing websites (fake websites that appear to look like authentic banking website). Please verify the online banking internet address, and do not connect through unknown pages or e-mail links to avoid any potential scam. It is recommended that you add Standard Chartered’s official website (www.sc.com/tw) to “My favorites” in your browser’s Bookmarks tab.
    10. Please use Google Chrome、Firefox、Safari、Edge or later browsers, and change your display setting to at least 1024 × 768 resolution and 256 colors for maximum user experience. In addition, to increase the level of security during online transactions, we have blocked access attempts from browsers using SSL 3.0.
    11. Download the SC Mobile App from Google Play or the App Store — never from third-party sites. To access our online banking service, please use the latest version of your browser. Start by regularly updating the apps and anti-virus software on your mobile phone, tablets and laptops.
    12. If you notice any unauthorized access to your account or unauthorized transactions on your account close the mobile app or web browser and contact us immediately at 02-4058-0088. Remember, Standard Chartered will never request for your password or security information by phone call, email or SMS.

Online Security Guidelines
  • Type your Online banking URL
Always access our online banking by typing the correct URL (www.sc.com/tw) into your browser. Never click on a link in an email to take you to a website, or enter personal details either in the email or website.
  • Password and PIN security
You should always be wary if you receive unsolicited emails or calls asking you to disclose any personal details or card numbers. This information should be kept secret at all times. Be cautious about disclosing personal information to individuals you do not know.
Please remember that we will never contact you directly to ask you to disclose your PIN or your full password information.
  • If it sounds too good to be true…
It probably is. Don’t be conned by convincing emails offering you the chance to make some easy money. As with most things, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Be cautious of unsolicited emails from overseas – it is much harder to prove legitimacy of the organisations behind the emails.
  • PC security
It is important to use up-to-date anti-virus software and a personal firewall. If your computer uses Microsoft Windows, it is important to keep it updated via the Windows Update feature, equally if you use another operating system you should check regularly for updates. You should be vigilant if you use internet cafes or a computer that is not your own and over which you have no control.
  • Keep your identity private offline
Your identity can be as easily stolen offline as it can online. It is important that you comply with instructions about destroying new PIN numbers and expired bank cards.
You should also consider using a crosscut shredder to destroy bank and other statements that may contain sensitive personal information. It is advisable to store retained documents in a suitable locked and fireproof container.
  • Check your statements
It is important to check your statements regularly; a quick check will help identify any erroneous or criminal transactions that might have been performed on your account without your knowledge.
  • Check your banking session is secure
When undertaking any banking on the internet, check that the session is secure. There are two simple indicators that will tell you if your session is secure. The first is the use of https:// in the URL. Some browsers such as Mozilla Firefox change the color of the URL window when you are in a secure session. The other indicator is the presence of a digital certificate represented by a padlock or key in the bottom right hand corner. If you double click on this icon it should provide you with information about the organization with which you have entered in to a secure session.
  • Check For Spyware
In addition to being protected by using up-to-date antivirus software you should also regularly use software to remove spyware from you computer, as these programs record information about your internet use and transmit it without your permission. In some circumstances this can compromise your PC security.
  • Ensure You Log Off Properly
It is important to completely log off from your Online banking session; simply closing the window you performed the transaction in may not close the banking session. If your computer is infected with a Trojan, your session may become hijacked by a criminal and financial transactions may be performed without your knowledge. It is also advisable to disconnect from the internet if you are not planning to use it.
  • What we do to make your Online banking session secure
We use a combination of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol and passwords to protect your information. In addition, stronger authentication is used as appropriate to particular markets.

Malware (short for malicious software) infects computers and is designed to steal user information by altering the look and feel of the bank’s website. Recently, we have discovered a new Malware program called “SpyEye” which targets online banking users’ transactions, specifically with regard to non-designated account transfer.

If your computer has been infected with Malware, you will be prompted to enter your National ID, user name, password and Additional Login Pin (ALP) all in one screen. The correct login method is a 2-step authentication process where step 1 requires you to enter your national ID, username and password and step 2 requires you to enter your ALP.
If your computer has been infected with the “SpyEye” Malware, you will not be prompted for Step 2 but instead be redirected to a page stating “We are checking your security settings. Every step can take 1-10 minutes. Please be patient and don’t close or reload the page while we are checking the information.”

f you encounter a message similar to the above, your computer is likely to be infected with the “SpyEye” Malware. You are advised to close your browser immediately and inform the bank. You are also advised to refrain from using this computer for online banking until it has been checked and cleared of the Malware.

While the bank has the latest online security, we advise you to protect yourself by taking measures to safeguard against unauthorised access. For instance, you should not provide your login information on these additional prompts and should close your browser immediately if you:

  • Encounter difficulty accessing your account after entering your login credentials on the official Standard Chartered online banking page
  • Receive a message indicating that the transaction “May take 1-10 minutes to complete”, “Security verification in progress” or any other unusual message
  • Receive multiple prompts to re-enter your login information
  • Are redirected to another site to key in your login credentials

You are also advised to contact us immediately for 24-hour phone assistance at 4058 0088 or 02 4058 0088 from a mobile phone if you notice the following suspicious activities:

  • Your account balance has dropped even though you did not perform any fund transfers
  • You received an SMS alert with a One Time Password although you did not login to your online banking account
  • You received an SMS alert indicating that you have made a fund transfer through online banking which you did not initiate
