Standard Chartered celebrated in the INvolve Heroes Women Role Model List 2023

on September 28, 2023

28 September 2023, London, United Kingdom – Standard Chartered is proud to announce that two colleagues have been recognised in INvolve’s prestigious Heroes Women Future Leaders Role Model List 20231.

Our laureates, O’Brien Kalumba and Chimuka Muyovwe, were selected for their leadership and work in championing women in business and driving change for gender diversity in the workplace.

O’Brien Kalumba, Director for the CEO Office and Client Coverage team at Standard Chartered Bank AG (SCB AG), is based in Frankfurt, Germany. Throughout her 12-year international career across Zambia, the UK, and Germany, O’Brien has fervently advocated for diversity and inclusion (D&I). She championed these values at SCB AG and externally, with a focus on elevating female leaders and minority ethnic groups, enabling their full potential and advocating for the critical role that mentorship, sponsorship and coaching has on one’s career. She sits on SCB AG’s Europe D&I Council. O’Brien is deeply committed to women’s empowerment, volunteering on When Females Lead’s2 Board of Directors. This non-profit organisation empowers confident women leaders across Africa through mentorship, career guidance (mentoring 300+ young female professionals) and uplifting vulnerable children.

Chimuka Muyovwe, Director and Business Planning Manager for the office of the Regional CEO for Europe and Americas, Standard Chartered, is based in London, UK. She also serves as the Global D&I Secretary, working in close collaboration with the Group D&I team to prioritise the advancement of females in senior leadership positions at Standard Chartered. Her relentless dedication is testament to her unwavering commitment to gender equality and inclusion efforts. In addition to her day job, Chimuka is also a Director for When Females Lead. Her advocacy for underrepresented women of colour is commendable and reflects a commitment to fostering positive change in her community and beyond. Chimuka also chairs Agova3, a women-led business development consultancy, and serves on the Board of Directors for Copper Rose Zambia4, a leading youth led organization driving change in gender and health.

Brigit Simler, Global Head of Employee Advocacy at Standard Chartered, says: “We stand up for equitable access and are firmly committed to unleashing the full potential of women. I am delighted that our colleagues have received this well-deserved recognition for their ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive. It is both the right thing to do and a key catalyst for business success, enabling us to better understand and serve our clients. The fact that O’Brien and Chimuka are receiving this accolade speaks volumes to their consistent focus on this agenda and their drive to make a difference.”

Founder & CEO of INvolve, Suki Sandhu OBE, says: “I’m so thrilled to be celebrating our 2023 Heroes Role Models, a global group of trailblasing Executives, Future Leaders and Advocates driving change for women in business. All the individuals within these lists are championing inclusion and leveraging their expertise and knowledge to drive impactful initiatives and strategic change within their organisations. It’s vital that women across global organizations can succeed and achieve career success, and these Role Models are essential drivers of change who are smashing barriers to progress. We could not effect change without them leading the way.”

Standard Chartered has featured before in INvolve’s recognition lists, for example, in 2021, three colleagues were named5 in the prestigious EMpower Ethnic Minority Role Model Lists 2021.
