17 July 2024, London, United Kingdom – The Standard Chartered Great City Race, a premier corporate 5K team event, returns to the closed streets of the City of London on Tuesday 23 July 2024.
Entry fees raise funds for The Standard Chartered Foundation to support Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, a global initiative to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion. All funds raised for Futuremakers will be matched by Standard Chartered PLC up to a limit of USD5 million per year and will go towards programmes that enable disadvantaged young entrepreneurs and jobseekers, predominantly women, to learn, earn and grow to improve their economic skills and prospects.
The sold-out event, with more than 5,000 participants signed up to take part, will welcome teams from across the capital. They will be joined by Liverpool Football Club (FC) former women’s player Becky Easton, who also plans to run in the event, and Liverpool FC former player David James, who will be cheering the runners on.
Setting off at 19:15 from the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), the corporate teams will complete a 5k route through the City of London, passing some of its most famous landmark buildings including St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower 42 and the Bank of England.
Sonia Rossetti, Head, Corporate Affairs & Brand & Marketing, Europe & Americas at Standard Chartered, said “We’re excited to see that The Standard Chartered Great City Race repeatedly attracts so many companies to sign up each year. The atmosphere at the start line and after the race is always fantastic, with teams gathering in aid of Futuremakers, and lots of people raising money for charities they personally feel passionate about. I would also like to thank our volunteers, which includes employees from Standard Chartered and external partners who support this inspiring event.”
Hugh Brasher, Event Director of the Standard Chartered Great City Race, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming more than 5,000 participants to the capital for this year’s sold-out Standard Chartered Great City Race. It is fantastic that so many people have registered to take part in what is always a fun evening of exercise and socialising for all those involved.
“The Standard Chartered Great City Race is a perfect way to spend an evening with friends and colleagues and we look forward to welcoming this year’s teams to the Honorable Artillery Company.
“With remote working so prevalent, grasping these opportunities where companies and employees can celebrate together, in something that is good for their hearts, souls and minds is becoming more and more important.’’
