New York, 3 February 2015 – Standard Chartered Bank has partnered with the City College and the City College Fund to create the Women Entrepreneurs Resource Center. Located within the Zahn Innovation Center, this is part of the Standard Chartered Technology Incubator for Women Entrepreneurs program – an initiative that supports greater diversity in gender representation within technology entrepreneurship.
The program will include a dedicated workspace, mentorship, coursework, and access to an extensive network designed to support entrepreneurs navigating the challenges of starting a business.

Women are often found to be underrepresented in the technology sector, and women-founded startups have been noted to receive only 4% of venture capital funding despite being able to achieve 35% higher return on investment than their male counterparts. This initiative is an effort to help address that discrepancy and builds upon Standard Chartered’s global track record of increasing women’s access to entrepreneurial finance, and supporting adolescent girls and women through financing and capacity building.
“Diversity is a key pillar of Standard Chartered’s beliefs, and we are proud to be part of an initiative that inspires more women to come forward and contribute their talents,” said Julio Rojas, CEO, Standard Chartered Americas. “CCNY’s talented student population showcases New York’s diversity, and I am confident that this program will demonstrate the City’s broad skills while creating opportunities for women to enhance New York’s position as a technological hub.”
Located within the Zahn Innovation Center, the collaboration will incubate and nurture entrepreneurial initiatives at the City College of New York, helping students, faculty, staff and community members transform their ideas into sustainable ventures.
