NEW YORK, November 25, 2020 — Standard Chartered plc (the Group) has appointed Robert Zoellick to chair its International Advisory Council (IAC), a diverse, multidisciplinary panel of experts whose role is to provide insight on global trends and opportunities that may affect the Group and its clients. Mr. Zoellick succeeds Dominic Barton, who is now serving as Canada’s ambassador to China.

Mr. Zoellick served as president of the World Bank from 2007-12, where he led the effort to assist developing economies during the Global Financial Crisis. He held various posts in the U.S. Government over three administrations, including U.S. Trade Representative, Deputy Secretary of State, Counselor to the Secretary of Treasury, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House.

Mr. Zoellick is currently a Senior Counselor at the Brunswick Group and a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Belfer Center, and serves on the boards of Temasek, Twitter, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is the author of “America in the World: A History of U.S. Diplomacy and Foreign Policy,” published in 2020.

The Group has also appointed as IAC members Stephanie Carullo, chief operating officer of U.S. cloud content and file sharing company Box, Inc.; Naina Lal Kidwai, a non-executive director at LafargeHolcim Ltd.; and Jane Jie Sun, CEO of Trip.com. Ms. Lal Kidwai and Ms. Sun will join the council in January 2021.

Ms. Carullo has extensive experience in the technology sector, having held senior roles at Apple, Cisco Systems and IBM. Ms. Lal Kidwai is a former banker who served as chair of HSBC India and on the board of HSBC Asia Pacific and has been active on several multinational boards. In addition to her leadership role at Trip.com, Ms. Sun is on the board of two other travel-related companies. Former member Arundhati Bhattacharya has left the council to become chairperson and chief executive for the India division of Salesforce.

Group Chairman José Viñals said: “Input from the International Advisory Council has been an enormous benefit to the Group as we navigate through the uncharted waters of 2020. I am pleased to welcome our new members and honoured that a leader of Bob Zoellick’s stature has agreed to chair the council. I would also like to thank Dominic and Arundhati for their valuable contributions.”
