Introducing enhanced security on Standard Chartered cards with 3D Secure TM

3D SecureTM is a new security feature on Standard Chartered credit and debit cards from 28 June 2017.

Key benefits

  • Use your Standard Chartered card for online purchases in a safe and secure manner
  • No hassle of registration will be required for enabling 3D SecureTM
  • For websites with the ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘Mastercard Secure Code’ marks, no transaction will be authorised without entering the One Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number. As a result, instances of fraudulent usage on your card on electronic sites will be minimised considerably.

Non-3D SecureTM transactions

  • Use details on the card: card number, expiry date, (CVV)

  • Transaction gets authorised

3D SecureTM transactions

  • Use details on the card: card number, expiry date, (CVV)

  • OTP gets generated

  • OTP gets sent to your registered mobile number

  • Only if both the OTP and the card details entered are correct will the transaction get authorised

How does it work?

The 3D SecureTM feature offers enhanced security through an additional authentication process when you pay online with your Standard Chartered card on websites that are 3D SecureTM compliant, bearing the ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘Mastercard Secure Code’ marks. This additional authorisation step ensures that only you, as the cardholder, will have the password required to complete the transaction.

Keep your contact information updated

  • Please ensure that your latest mobile number is updated with Standard Chartered as the OTP will be sent there
  • Please ensure that you have enabled pop-up windows in your browser as you will be required to enter the OTP on a pop-up window on the payment page
  • Please note that some websites are not 3D SecureTM compliant and hence do not ask for a OTP to authorise the transactions. These transactions are inherently unsafe as details on the card (card number, expiry date and CVV code) are sufficient to carry out the transaction.

3D SecureTM is an online security feature for credit and debit card transactions that are carried out online. This feature protects you from unauthorised online purchases as you will be required to provide a one-time password (OTP) that is sent to your registered mobile number when you make any online purchases on websites supporting this feature.

No, this additional authentication process is applicable only to websites that have enabled the security feature. You will be able to identify if the website is enabled for 3D SecureTM i.e. if the ‘Verified by Visa’ or ‘Mastercard SecureCode’ sign is displayed on the website.

3D SecureTM protects you against unauthorized online purchases as you will be required to enter a OTP, that will be sent to your registered mobile number, before you can complete the online purchase. This additional authorisation step ensures that only you, as the cardholder, will have the password required to complete the transaction.

The 3D SecureTM feature is a free security feature on all Standard Chartered cards.

No, the 3D SecureTM feature will automatically be applicable across Standard Chartered credit and debit cards.
