Standard Chartered Open API and Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS) Scheme

What is Open API?

Open API is a computer programme approach which enables secure and fast exchange of information between Standard Chartered and third parties. It allows you to have a direct and seamless access to our products and services via our partners’ digital channels.

The implementation of Open API in Hong Kong is governed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) with a four-phase approach. What is Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS) initiative?

The Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS) is an initiative introduced by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) under Phase 3 of its Open API Framework

It allows you to share your bank account data with your selected banks securely and efficiently, subject to your prescribed consent. Such data sharing will facilitate the banks to enhance customer experience and provide more personalised services to you.

How to determine which Third-Party Service Providers (TSP) are in Open API partnership with Standard Chartered (Hong Kong) Limited?

To help differentiating whether a third-party service provider (TSP) is a partner of bank and those which are not, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has published this video https://youtu.be/igHxqJGRXLI (available in Chinese only) listing various ways for the general public to be better informed of the bank & TSP Open API partnership.

Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS)

As a Data Provider, SCB would share customers’ Current / Savings account data to other banks via Open API after receiving customer’s consent.

To provide consent for us to share your bank data, you may initiate the process from the online banking platform of the bank that you would like to give consent to. You will then be redirected to our online banking platform to complete granting the consent. Please refer to below FAQs for the detailed steps of granting / refreshing / revoking consent.

FAQs

  • In order to use this service, you need to:

    • Register for Standard Chartered online banking and SC Mobile App; and
    • Hold at least one Current or Savings account with the Bank; and
    • Have a valid mobile number or email address registered with the Bank
  • With your consent, only following Current or Savings account data will be shared to your selected banks during your consent period:

    1. Account availability
    2. Account status
    3. Account balances
    4. Account transactions

    Your login credentials will not be shared to other banks.

  • The consent period is one year. It will be reviewed from time to time, subjected to HKMA’s latest guideline or announcement.

  • We will only share your account data to your selected banks within the consent period. You can always revoke any active consents to stop data sharing instantly. Please refer to below FAQs for the detailed steps of revoking consent.

  • You will receive email and push notifications after granting / revoking a consent successfully. You may also review any active consents in the “Manage Open Banking consent” function in online banking.

  • This service is free of charge from Standard Chartered currently. It will be reviewed from time to time, subjected to HKMA’s latest guideline or announcement.

  • Please reach out to your selected banks for further information. You are encouraged to understand how your data is being used before granting the sharing consent.

  • You may refer to the following steps to grant consent for us to share your account data to your selected bank:

    1. Initiate the process from the online banking of the bank that you would like to give consent to. You will then be redirected to our online banking to complete granting the consent.
    2. Log in to our online banking with your login credentials to enter the consent flow.
    3. Review the type of account data which will be shared during consent period.
    4. Select the account(s) that you would like to share the data and tick the checkbox to confirm the consent statement.
    5. Review the selected account(s) and confirm granting consent.
    6. Complete – You will be redirected back to the online banking of your selected bank and will receive email and push notifications from us.

    1. Log in to our desktop Online Banking with your login credentials
    2. Click “Update Client Information” on the side menu
    3. Select the tab “Open Banking”
    4. Review all active consents under the “MY CONSENTS” tab
    5. Click “View details” to view the accounts with data sharing

    For SC Mobile App

    1. Log in to our SC Mobile App with your login credentials
    2. Tab “Service” on the bottom menu
    3. Select “Password & Security”
    4. Select “Manage Open Banking Consent”
    5. Review all active consents under the “MY CONSENTS” tab
    6. Click “View details” to view the accounts with data sharing

    For desktop Online Banking

    1. Log in to our desktop Online Banking with your login credentials
    2. Click “Update Client Information” on the side menu
    3. Select the tab “Open Banking”
    4. Review all active consents under the “MY CONSENTS” tab
    5. Click “View details” to view the accounts with data sharing
    6. Click “Remove Permission” to confirm revoking

    For SC Mobile App

    1. Log in to our SC Mobile App with your login credentials
    2. Tab “Service” on the bottom menu
    3. Select “Password & Security”
    4. Select “Manage Open Banking Consent”
    5. Review all active consents under the “MY CONSENTS” tab
    6. Click “View details” to view the accounts with data sharing
    7. Click “Remove Permission” to confirm revoking

(a) Never disclose your banking details, including your login credentials, any security tokens and passwords, to any unauthorized third party apps. SCB HK has not authorized any third party apps to access our system or shared any client data with them.
(b) SCB HK has published the list of partnering API third-party service providers (TSPs) and the corresponding specific products and services provided in partnership with the respective TSPs on https://axess.sc.com/partnerships?market=hk. Please refer to the list of partnering TSPs and their relevant partnering products and services if you are in doubt.
(c) You are advised to be vigilant to bogus calls or other similar scams.
