Paper Statement Fee FAQ

1. What types of paper statement(s) will be charged?

With effect from 1 December 2024, Paper Statement Fee (HK$10 per month) will be introduced to each customer who receives any of the following paper statement(s).

  • Consolidated Statement,
  • Credit Card Statement(s) (except Standard Chartered SHOP’n GAIN Platinum Credit Card, Standard Chartered SHOP’n GAIN Credit Card, Standard Chartered Corporate VISA Card, Standard Chartered Visa Signature Business Card and designated Mastercard (card number starting with 5488)),
  • Current/Savings account Statement(s),
  • Standard Chartered Revolving Cash Card Statement(s) AND
  • Manhattan Revolving Personal Loan Statement(s).

Mortgage Statement, Investment related Statement e.g. Securities and Other Statements are not in scope.

2. How much is the Paper Statement Fee and when will it be charged?

The Paper Statement Fee is HK$10 monthly (per eligible customers) and will be debited in relevant account monthly starting from January 2025  if you continue to receive paper statement from 1 December 2024 onwards.

3. Why is Standard Chartered Bank imposing a Paper Statement Fee on personal banking customers?

With the increasing trend of digitalization, customers can view their statements conveniently via desktop/laptop computer. To help drive the reduction of paper consumption, we are imposing the Paper Statement Fee to encourage clients to switch to e-Statement.

4. Which account will be charged?

The relevant accounts will be charged.

5. How can I avoid the Paper Statement Fee?

You can avoid the Paper Statement Fee by simply enrolling in the eStatement service by log in to our online banking service before 1 July 2019. You will be able to view, download and print out of last 12 months via Standard Chartered Online Banking at any time you need them.

Steps to enroll eStatement service

  1. Log in SC online banking service.
  2. Click “eStatements”.
  3. Click ”Subscribe” taband change button of the statement(s).
  4. Choose “Subscribe eStatement – Receive an email alert when your eStatement is available on Online Banking”, accept the T&C and then click next.

6. Are there any customers who will be exempted from the Paper Statement Fee?

The fee will be waived for below customers:

  • Customers aged below 18 or 65 and above.
  • Customers who hold Click-a-Count

Recipients of government disability allowances, allowance for elderlies, or Comprehensive Social Security Assistance through SCB banking accounts.

7. How to request for fee wavier if I receive Disability Allowance, Old Age Allowance or Social Security Allowance through other banks?

You can request for fee wavier by providing your Disability Allowance, Old Age Allowance or Social Security Allowance supporting documents at the branch. You may also contact our customer service hotline to learn more about this arrangement. The bank will waive the Fee starting from next month once the submitted documents has been verified.

8. I was born on 2 July, 1954, and will become 65 after 2 July, 2019. If I will receive paper statement in July and onwards, am I subject to the Paper Statement Fee?

No. Exemptions will be applied to clients who reach 65 during the calendar year. Since you will be aged 65 in 2019, you will be exempted from the fee.

9. I received a paper statement on 4 December, 2024 and I enrolled in the e-Statement service on 5 December, 2024. Will I still be charged the Paper Statement Fee in June? Will the fee be charged on a pro-rata basis?

Yes, you will be charged the Paper Statement Fee, but not on a pro-rata basis. Since you have already received a paper statement in December 2024, the full Paper Statement fee of HK$10 will be debited from your relevant account in January 2025 . Customers are recommended to enroll in the eStatement service as soon as possible to enjoy the hassle-free benefits of managing e-Statements online for free.

10. Will I receive prior notice (i.e. a standalone fee debit notification) of the Paper Statement Fee?

Existing customers will be notified by the Notice of change in relation to paper statement fee in March, 2019. The Paper Statement Fee will be directly debited from the relevant account. Such transactions will be reflected on the statement, and no separate notice will be sent.

11. Can I request for a paper statement after I registered for e-Statement service? Will I be charged?

Yes. You could request for a with a statement retrieval fee charged. For details, please refer to the statement retrieval fee in the service charge booklet. 

Applicable to customers with banking accounts
12. I have both banking and credit card accounts. I enrolled in the e-Statement service for my bank account but not for my credit card. If I keep receiving the paper statements for my credit card in December 2024, do I need to pay the Paper Statement Fee and how much will it be?

Yes. The Paper Statement Fee will be applied to credit card statements. From December 2024 onwards, if you will receive a credit card paper statement, you will still be subject to a paper statement fee of HK$10 for your credit card statement each month.

13. I have a joint account with my wife who is eligible for exemption. Will this account be charged if we continue to receive paper statements?

For joint accounts, the charge will be exempted only if the primary account holder is eligible for the exemption. If your wife is the primary account holder of this joint account, the account will be exempted from the Paper Statement Fee.

Applicable to clients with credit cards
14. I have 3 credit cards and received a total of 3 paper statements for the credit cards in December 2024, how much will I be charged on Paper Statement Fee?

You will be charged HK$10 on the Paper Statement Fee monthly.

15. If I have one of the following credit cards (Standard Chartered SHOP’n GAIN Platinum Credit Card / Standard Chartered SHOP’n GAIN Credit Card / Standard Chartered Corporate VISA Card / Standard Chartered Visa Signature Business Card / designed Mastercard with card number starting with 5488 ) and other cards from the eligible statement, do I need to pay the paper statement fee?

Yes. You will still need to pay the paper statement fee if you receive any of the eligible statement(s) in Q1.

16. Will the paper statement fee apply to supplementary cardholders?

No. The paper statement fee will be applied to principal cardholder only.

17. I have a supplementary card for my wife who is eligible for exemption. Will this account be charged if we continue to receive paper statements?

Yes. The charge will be exempted only if the principal cardholder is eligible for the exemption. As your wife is not principal card holder, the account will be exempted from the Paper Statement Fee.

18. I have a Standard Chartered Revolving Cash Card Statement(s) /MANHATTAN Revolving Personal Loan Statement(s) only and couldn’t subscribe online banking. Will I still be charged?

No. You will not be charged.
